Business License

Businesses located in the city limits of Springfield are required to have a City of Springfield business license once the business grosses $3,000.  To obtain a license business owners may complete a Business License Application Packet and pay a $15 license fee to the City Clerk.

Application Packets are available online and in person in the City Clerk's office at Springfield City Hall, 405 North Main Street.  City Hall hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 am - 4 :30 pm.

Types of Business Licenses

  • Minimal Activity -  Minimal activity licenses are for businesses that gross between $3,000-$10,000 per year.
  • Regular Activity - Regular activity licenses are for businesses that gross more than $10,000 per year.

Out of City Licenses

  • Any business that is located outside of the city limits of Springfield is required to have a City of Springfield business license if the business grosses $50,000 or more inside the Springfield city limits.  

Tennessee Department of Revenue

All businesses must register with the Tennessee Department of Revenue TNTAP program. Please visit the TNTAP system at https://www.tn.gov/revenue/e-file-and-pay

All businesses must register and pay their annual business tax report online with the Tennessee Department of Revenue.  The business tax liability is based on the gross receipts of the business.
