Citizens of Springfield are receiving calls from an 800-number telling that they had 30 to 45 minutes before their electricity would be cut off. When pressed for information, they were told to go to CVS on Memorial Boulevard to make payment.
A number of local citizens have also received telephone calls over the past few weeks from someone claiming to be with the IRS. The caller claims that the citizens owe back taxes, and if the citizens do not make an immediate payment, then they will be arrested.
The City of Springfield does not call citizens and demand payment for any reason. Please hang up on these scammers and report the number to the Police Department.
This is just a reminder for everyone to remain vigilant and suspicious anytime someone calls and pressures them for money. Con men and women have become every creative in their various lies and ploys to take your money, and the most trusting and conscientious people are the most likely to be victimized.
